Frequently asked questions
Everything about how YesPile works: the honest-AI approach, the Yes Score, credits, and your data. Can't find your answer? Our guides go deeper on resume strategy itself.
🌱 Getting started
What is YesPile and what does it actually do?+
YesPile tailors your existing resume to a specific job posting. You upload your resume once; for each job, you paste the posting and YesPile shows a free match score (the Yes Score), then rewrites your resume in the job's language: it reorders your most relevant experience, mirrors the posting's vocabulary, and tightens your summary. You review every change side by side before accepting it, then download a recruiter-ready PDF or Word file. It also drafts matching cover letters and automatically logs every job into an application tracker.
How do I get started?+
Create a free account (no credit card), upload your current resume as a PDF, and YesPile reads it automatically, with no forms or retyping. That takes under a minute. You start with 5 free credits, which is enough to tailor 5 resumes or mix resumes and cover letters. Checking your match score against any job is always free and doesn't use credits.
Do I need to install anything?+
No. YesPile runs entirely in your browser. You paste a job description (or the job's URL) into the web app and everything happens there. A browser extension for one-click capture from job boards is on the roadmap, but the web app is and will remain fully self-sufficient.
What file formats can I upload, and what do I get out?+
Upload your resume as a PDF. On the way out, you can download your tailored resume as a PDF or a .docx (Word) file, both in a clean, single-column, ATS-friendly layout. Cover letters export the same way.
My resume is rough / outdated. Should I fix it before uploading?+
Upload it as-is. YesPile parses what you have, and you can edit any section in the built-in editor afterwards. It's usually faster to fix things there than in a word processor. The 'Make it measurable' tool will also scan your bullets and prompt you, with guided templates, to add real numbers where they'd strengthen your story.
🔍 Honesty & how the AI works
Will the AI invent skills or experience I don't have?+
No. This is YesPile's core design rule. The AI may rephrase, reorder, emphasize, and trim your real experience, but it may never add facts: no invented skills, no inflated titles, no fabricated metrics. After every generation, a separate verification pass cross-checks the output against your source resume and flags anything (a skill, employer, title, or claim) that isn't supported by what you actually wrote. You then review every change in a side-by-side diff before it becomes your resume.
Then what does 'tailoring' actually change?+
Three things. Order: your most job-relevant bullets and skills move to the top, where the 7-second recruiter skim actually lands. Vocabulary: work you genuinely did gets described in the posting's own terms (your 'client coordination' becomes their 'stakeholder management': same fact, searchable phrasing). Emphasis: your summary is rewritten to position your real background against this job's top requirements, and irrelevant material is trimmed. Position and language, never fiction.
What about numbers and metrics? Can the AI estimate those?+
YesPile never generates numbers for you. Invented metrics are the most dangerous kind of resume fabrication; one follow-up question in an interview exposes them. Instead, the 'Make it measurable' flow identifies bullets that would benefit from quantification and asks YOU for the real figures with guided templates (e.g., 'how many tickets per week?'). The only numbers on your resume are ones you supplied and can defend.
Will my resume sound like generic AI text?+
The tailoring engine is grounded in two concrete documents (your real resume and the specific posting), which is what prevents the interchangeable 'AI sludge' tone. Output stays in your factual voice, just sharper and aligned to the role. And because you approve each change in the diff view (and can revise any section with free follow-up prompts, like 'make this bullet punchier'), nothing leaves without sounding like you.
Can recruiters or ATS software tell I used an AI tool?+
There's nothing to detect: the output is your own experience, professionally phrased, in a standard single-column document, indistinguishable from a resume you spent two hours tailoring by hand. What screeners actually notice is unsupported keyword stuffing and fabricated-sounding claims, which are precisely what YesPile's verification pass prevents.
Why does honest tailoring even work? Isn't it just cosmetic?+
Because applications fail at two checkpoints that have nothing to do with your qualifications: recruiter keyword searches (synonyms don't match: if they search 'account management' and you wrote 'client relations', you're not in the results) and the ~7-second human skim (evidence buried in bullet four of job three effectively doesn't exist). Tailoring fixes findability and visibility for experience you already have. That's not cosmetic; it's the difference between being seen and not.
🎯 The Yes Score
What is the Yes Score?+
A 0–100 match score between your resume and a specific job posting, computed by AI analysis of how well your experience covers the role's stated requirements. It comes with a requirement-by-requirement breakdown showing what you cover, what you partially cover, and what's missing, so you know before applying whether the job is worth a credit, and before that, whether it's worth your time.
Is the Yes Score really free? What's the catch?+
Really free, with a generous daily cap to prevent abuse. No catch: scoring is how you decide where to spend effort, and we'd rather you tailor for five right jobs than fifty wrong ones. Scores for the same job and resume are cached, so re-checking doesn't burn anything.
What's a 'good' Yes Score? Should I skip low-scoring jobs?+
As a rule of thumb: 70+ means you meet most stated requirements and tailoring will mostly be about visibility. That's strong territory. 50 to 70 is borderline: read the breakdown and see whether the gaps are deal-breakers ('must have RN license') or tiebreakers ('familiarity with Figma a plus'). Below 50, your application is a long shot regardless of how well it's written; applying to fewer, closer jobs raises every downstream rate. The score's real value is making that targeting decision explicit instead of a vibe.
💳 Credits & pricing
How does the credit system work?+
Simple unit pricing: 1 credit = 1 tailored resume, 1 credit = 1 cover letter. Yes Scores are always free, and revisions to a generation you've already paid for (e.g., 'emphasize leadership more') are free too, up to a fair-use cap of 10 per generation. You get 5 free credits at signup, and credits never expire.
What do credits cost?+
Two one-time packs: 50 credits for $10 (20¢ each) or 150 credits for $25 (17¢ each). For heavy stretches there's a Weekly Pass (75 fresh credits every week for $9/week, auto-renewing and cancellable anytime) and the Unlimited Week: $18 one-time for 7 days of unlimited tailored resumes and cover letters with no counting. Buying the Unlimited Week never touches your existing credit balance.
Why credits instead of a monthly subscription?+
Because job searches are sprints, not subscriptions. Most people apply intensively for a few weeks and then stop, while a monthly plan quietly bills them for months they don't use. Credits match the actual shape of a job hunt: buy what you need, use it whenever (credits never expire), and go unlimited only for the week you're applying everywhere.
What happens if a generation fails? Do I lose the credit?+
No. Credits are deducted only for completed work. If a generation fails on our end, the credit is automatically refunded to your balance. You can see every deduction, refund, purchase, and bonus in the credit history on your Credits page.
How do referrals work and what do I get?+
Every account has a personal referral link (on your Dashboard, Credits, and Settings pages). When a friend signs up through it, you get 5 credits and they start with 7 instead of the usual 5. There's no limit: five friends is 25 credits, a full job-search sprint's worth, free.
How do I manage billing, get receipts, or cancel the Weekly Pass?+
The 'Manage billing & subscriptions' link on the Credits page opens a secure Stripe billing portal where you can cancel the Weekly Pass anytime, update your card, and download invoices. All payments are processed by Stripe; YesPile never sees or stores your card number.
Do you offer refunds?+
Failed generations are refunded automatically and instantly. For purchases, if something went wrong (a double charge, a purchase you didn't intend), contact us and we'll make it right. Unused credit packs are refundable within 14 days of purchase if you haven't spent from them.
⚡ Features: cover letters, revisions & the tracker
How do cover letters work?+
After tailoring a resume for a job, you can generate a matching cover letter for 1 credit. It's drafted from your real resume and that specific posting: concrete, under a page, and free of 'I am writing to express my enthusiasm' sludge. You can edit every line and regenerate with instructions before exporting to PDF or Word.
What if I don't like part of the tailored resume?+
Three options, all free: edit any line directly in the review screen; reject individual changes in the diff (keeping your original wording for just that line); or use a revision prompt (plain-English instructions like 'make the summary shorter' or 'emphasize the management experience') which surgically updates the draft. Revisions are free up to 10 per generation.
What does the application tracker do?+
Every job you tailor for is automatically logged with the company, role, date, and your Yes Score. No data entry. You can update each application's status (applied, interviewing, offer, rejected) as things progress, which turns your job search into data: two weeks in, you'll know your real application-to-interview rate and whether something needs fixing.
Can I keep multiple base resumes?+
Yes. You can store multiple resumes (e.g., a data-analyst version and a product-manager version) and choose which one to tailor for any given job. One is marked primary and used by default.
🧩 Chrome extension
Is there a browser extension?+
It's in development. The YesPile Chrome extension will let you capture a job posting directly from the page you're on (LinkedIn, Greenhouse, Lever, Workday, and other job boards), see your free Yes Score right there, and tailor your resume in one click using the same account and credits as the web app. Everything the extension will do is already possible today by pasting the job description into the web app; the extension just removes the copy-paste.
Will the extension auto-apply to jobs for me?+
No, and that's deliberate. A later phase will offer assisted form-filling: the extension will draft answers into application forms in your own browser, using only information from your real profile. You review everything, and you click submit. Fully automated mass-applying produces exactly the low-quality applications recruiters have learned to filter out, and it can violate job boards' terms. We're building the version that helps you apply better, not just more.
Will the extension cost extra?+
No. The extension will use the same account, the same credit balance, and the same pricing as the web app. Yes Scores will remain free in the extension too. If you'd like to be notified when it launches, email support@yespile.app with the subject 'extension' and we'll let you know.
🔒 Account, security & privacy
What happens to my resume data? Who can see it?+
Your resume and generated documents are stored encrypted in our database (Supabase/Postgres) and are visible only to your account, enforced by row-level security at the database layer rather than just application code. We don't sell your data, we don't share it with employers or data brokers, and AI processing happens via API calls that don't train public models on your content.
How do I reset my password?+
Click 'Forgot password?' on the login page, enter your email, and we'll send a reset link (valid for one hour). If you're already logged in, you can change your password from Settings → Account → Change password.
Can I delete my account and data?+
Yes. Contact us from your account email and we'll permanently delete your account, resumes, generations, and application history. Payment records are retained only as required for tax and accounting law.
Is payment information safe?+
All payments run through Stripe, a PCI-DSS Level 1 payment processor used by millions of businesses. Your card details go directly to Stripe; YesPile servers never see, store, or transmit your card number.
💬 Getting help
How do I contact support?+
Two ways. Fastest: the chat bubble in the corner of this page. It answers most questions instantly, and if it can't help, it connects you to a human. Direct: email support@yespile.app and a person will reply, typically within one business day. For billing issues, include the email on your account so we can find your purchase.
Is the support chat a human?+
It starts as an AI assistant that knows YesPile inside out (pricing, features, troubleshooting), so most questions get answered in seconds, even at 3 a.m. If your issue needs a person (billing disputes, account problems, anything sensitive), tell it so or click 'Talk to a human' and it hands the conversation, with your permission, to support@yespile.app along with the chat transcript so you don't have to repeat yourself.
I found a bug or have a feature idea. Where does it go?+
We genuinely want it: support@yespile.app with 'bug' or 'idea' in the subject line. Bug reports with a screenshot and the page URL get fixed fastest. Feature ideas go straight onto the roadmap board the founders actually use.
